A unique place and friendly people

Pros: Great location in the center of Portela village in Cha des Calderas. This is an extraordinary place! Rosie's friendly and helpful host arranged for me to take a guide to the crater of the Fogo volcano. After climbing, Rosie gave me a delicious lunch. The stunning sunset and sunrise in this amazing place will forever remain in my memory! There are many hiking trails inside the caldera itself, it was safe to stay for another day.

Cons: Lack of hot water.

Fantastic

Pros: As soon as we reached the Caldeira with the 'aluger collectiv' from Sao Filipe we already realised that the 2 nights we booked with Rose Silva was way too short... The environment was really breathtaking! Our very friendly and English speaking host Rosy was waiting for us when we arrived at the guesthouse in Portela. He showed us not only the room we booked, but also explained about the Chã das Caldeiras and things we could do during our stay. The accompanying restaurant is nearby. Highlight was of course the ascent of the vulcano on the 2nd day. Rosy was our guide and during the ascent he gave us much information the history of the vulcanos. He climbed the Pico de Fogo over 3000 times so you can say he is highly experienced! It took us 3 hours to reach the top and the descent (the longer route) took 2,5 hours. This was a magnificent experience! Unfortunately we were not able to stay longer to visit other places in the caldeira, because we had a tight schedule.

Pros: Comfy room with a private big bathroom for one night. They woke up early just to make us 5:30am breakfast, which cost only €3 each. We checked in earlier because of the ferry delay and left later because there was no transport to come back to the capital. We experienced understanding and welcoming each moment of our stay.

Cons: It would be great to have hot water but I have lived in Cape Verde for more than 2 years, so I know why it’s an issue. That’s why 10/10

Perfect!

Pros: What a lovely family! Booked it last minute and didn't expect much. But got an excellent place to stay! It is clean and cosy place for very good price. Good location as well. I even had the view to volcano through my window.

Cons: I stayed here only one night. Next time I'll stay longer!

Tolle Unterkunft - haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt! Rose hat sich bestens um uns gekümmert und ein tolles Frühstück bereitet!

Pros: Molto accogliente e pulito, letto comodo, molte informazioni date prima del nostro arrivo. Abbiamo cenato da loro, il cibo era ottimo e il prezzo era giusto e siamo anche andati in cima al pico con Rose ed è stato molto bello e ben organizzato. Ottima esperienza, consigliatissimo.

Pros: Emplacement idéal pour les randos. Gentillesse et disponibilité de nos hôtes et de leur famille. Le courage de tous ceux qui reconstruisent leur village depuis l'éruption du volcan.

Pros: Unglaublich nette und sympathische Familie, sehr leckeres Essen, tolle Tipps und Rose hat uns die wunderbare Celina als Guide für die Tour zum Gipfel vermittelt. Unvergessliche Tage in einer faszinierenden Landschaft. Kalte Dusche nach der Wanderung erfrischt. Ich kann jedem die Unterkunft wärmstens empfehlen. Danke an Rose und Familie

Pros: Nous avons passé un bref séjour exceptionnel à Cha das Caldeiras chez Rose Silva. Rose et toute sa famille ont été très accueillants, bienveillants et toujours à l’écoute de nos besoins. Rose nous a également accompagnés pour l’ascension du volcan et nous a donné d’excellents conseils, ce qui a rendu cette expérience encore plus mémorable. Nous recommandons vivement de vivre cette expérience auprès de la famille de Rose, qui vit dans un lieu tout simplement magnifique !
