Pros: An excellent location for hiking. Very nice and interesting accommodation. The host is also a guide and can arrange a hike to the volcano summit as well as trips to other places on the island.

Cons: Occasionally, the water or electricity didn’t work, but it’s possible to inform the owner. The shower is very basic, though hot water can be arranged. The owner is very helpful, but sometimes a little bit disorganised. We arranged an island tour with him because he speaks English, but someone else showed up who spoke only Creole.

Unique experience at Jose’s in front of the volcano

Pros: Staying at this guesthouse in front of Pico do Fogo was a unique experience. The owner José is an amazing person who knows his volcano deeply, it’s the place where he was born. A beautiful atmosphere was created with the other guests as well. We felt like one big family, gathering for dinner every evening and talking. The place allowed us to disconnect from the city life and contemplate the stars and the volcano. There are no artificial lights around, and the night sky is breathtaking. The rooms were clean, and Jose’s food was really good. We also booked the hike to Pico Pequeno with him and the transport to Sao Filipe, all well organized. Super, super recommended!

Pros: Jorge, the owner, is extremely kind and makes everything to feel you comfortable, from arranging pick up at local price at the harbour as well as cooking for you. The location is perfect, a little out of the village to be able to see the stars and have a clear view of the vulcano.

Pros: Jose it’s a lovely active person, caring a lot for his costumers. The place was super clean, all times and the vibes are great. He gave us as well little trips showing us specific things and stopping the care when needed so we have a lovely experience.

Amazing location!

Pros: The place is very nice and clean! Is built with lava stones! Just looking from the window seems to live in another world. From my window just in front the Pico de Fogo!!! Amazing.

Pros: The pension is right under the volcano, so you can start the hike right there. The house is beautiful and the rooms are very clean and tidy. The host is very kind and helpful and provides you with everything you need: guided tours, meals and lifts. If you want to see the pico do fogo and the island, we recommand you to stay there. You'll have a great experience.

Pros: José was an extremely dedicated and courteous host. He provided us with reliable and personalised information, chauffeured us around and lovingly cooked for us three times a day on request. All this in an incredible location and architecture. Highly recommended!
