Cactus Guest House

Pros: the breakfast was faboulus! A lot of fresh local fruits and drinks. Mamadou our host was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay a lot, our daughter (7y) loved it as well.The pool was super nice and the view so beautiful. Everything was very clean.

Best holidays ever, even though not perfect! But what/where in the world is perfect?!

Pros: Absolutely everything especially Mamadu, who looks after the house!!! For the very first time I was travelling on my own and I did enjoy every minute! House is absolutely beautiful with amazing views from the patio and sitting area which is pretty much at the swimming pool. There are so many plants around that you feel like in a jungle literally, but that my kind of house. Peace and quiet area ... except for the roosters, but I did love it as well, as brought me back to my childhood when I grow up in the village. And the most important factor why I did love this place so much is that I was on my own, so all house was to myself!!! Fortunately, Mamadu was there any time I did need anything!

Cons: As much as I love the house itself, outside the door is not very nice area and not very comfortable surrounding for walking even - no footpaths leading to main road and you are walking on the gravel and building site literally. However it is very safe and people would say hello even though you are alien to them. Very nice people after all and even kiddies at age 3 will send you kisses with sweet \

Stunning location and amazing attentive hosts.

Pros: The accommodation seems to be a bespoke development with separate owner, guest and manager rooms. A very relaxed place to stay with impeccable attention to needs of guests. I booked this accommodation for my wife and I as I wanted to show her the sunset from the beach at Cidade Velha. I had been to Cidade Velha once before, though never stayed. We wanted to explore this historic village. We spent two nights here at Cactus. I was in touch with the host prior to arrival and they were happy to arrange a private taxi from the airport and purchase a bottle of wine and some beer. They set up a small table overlooking the rocks below so we could watch the sunset on our first night. Breakfast was excellent with fresh food and set on a table overlooking the pool. We were lucky as we were the only people staying these two nights. A lovely place and lovely people.

Cons: I’m not writing this as a dislike, more to set the scene and manage expectations. Cactus Guest House is located in a small residential area just to the east of Cidade Velha. A small walk into the village. The sea view from the pool and terrace area is amazing. The area is very quiet and dimly lit. So walking into village can be tricky, so a torch is handy as rocks are loose underfoot in places. The host showed us the way on our first night and it was easy to find our way back. That said, we did get slightly lost on the second night. Maybe worth dropping a pin in your favourite map app at the front door as many of the streets look the same in the dark. Being remote, it would be better to ask Cactus for an airport transfer so the driver knows where to go. I’m guessing taking a taxi from the airport may be challenging for the driver to find Cactus? Our room was basic though very clean and tidy. There was a mosquito net above the bed and although no mosquitoes during our stay, maybe pack some Deet? We had nothing to complain about.

Great option for a short stay in the area of Cidade Velha

Pros: Great view, nice pool, lots comfy areas to relax, well equipped shared kitchen. Absolute highlight is the fully committed staff looking after your and willing to assist you with all you light need.

Cons: Complicated access, feels a bit like a shady area - I would personally be afraid to go out after dark.

Parfait !

Pros: Magnifique maison, propre et spacieuse, avec un extérieur joliment décoré de très belles plantes. La vue sur l'océan est tout simplement incroyable. La piscine très propre également et agréable. Cintia a été très réactive par message et nous a conseillé un taxi très sympathique, qui est venu nous chercher à l’aéroport à minuit. Le logement est idéalement situé, très proche du centre-ville à pied. Nous avons également pris l’option petit-déjeuner, qui était très bon. Nous recommandons vivement ce logement !

Pros: La petite ville de Cidade velha est tres belle, la maison avec vue mer super et vraiment impeccable. Liliane qui fait le menage est adorable et les 2 jeunes qui gardent la maison tres sympathiques et serviables!

Pros: Sehr schönes Haus, super gepflegte Anlage und schöner Blick zum Sonnenuntergang. Lage ist in Ordnung, man ist fußläufig schnell im Dorf.

Pros: L’emplacement était top pour visiter la ville. La piscine est également un grand plus.

Cons: Le matelas était peu confortable et la douche mériterait d’être débouché. Mais rien de vraiment problématique
