Nice place to stay, but perhaps a little dishonest when it comes to making money

Pros: Clean and comfortable dorm room. Hot water. Good location with access to hikes right from the door and regular aluguars between the accommodation and Ribeira Grande. Lovely people working there. Delicious breakfast (best I had on Santo Antão - biggest selection of different tasty foods and plenty of it).

Cons: I got the impression the owner of this accommodation is out to make as much money as possible. On Booking.com it said there was only ever a maximum of 1 dorm bed available, no matter how far in advance I looked to book. The second night I wanted to stay, Booking.com said there was no availability in the dorm. I contact the owner to check this and they confirmed the dorm was fully booked for my second night. So I booked my first night in the dorm and my second in a more expensive private room. I later got a message from the accommodation asking why I’d done this. I explained that I wanted the cheapest accommodation but had been told the dorm was full on the second night. They replied saying my reservation would only be for the dorm room. They didn’t say I should cancel either of my bookings. Both nights I was the only person staying in the dorm! So it is not true that there is only ever 1 dorm bed available or that the dorm is full when they tell you it is. Upon paying, after my two nights in the dorm, they tried to charge me the price for one dorm night and one more expensive night in a private room. When I wasn’t happy about this, they said I should have cancelled my booking for the private room. They told me they weren’t able to cancel it themselves. They later agreed this wasn’t fair and I could pay both nights at the price of the dorm room, but said I’d still have to pay the booking fee on top (despite this being included in the cost of the dorm fees too). There were other people staying in the private rooms when I was there although I don’t know if all the rooms were full. Dinner was nice enough but I felt a bit hard done by as a vegetarian. Everyone got cassava, salad, beans and rice. Meat eaters also got a really nice looking fish cooked in a sort of sauce with vegetables. I just got an omelette with a little bit of cheese in it. Yet it still cost 1200 esc. The dorm room and at least one other room are sort of in the basement so don’t have any views.

Pros: We had an amazing stay at Casa Pedrina. The food was great, the room really nice, the personnel super friendly and helpul, the hikes in the area wonderful. Our stay was even better due to the street dog that seems to live there now. He followed us during all our hikes in these 2 days. We hope he'll guide so many more visitors in the future, he is amazing! Our suggestion for his name: Chupa :D. Please pet him from us of you see him!

Cons: The shower could have been a little bit cleaner, the rest was better than we could have wished for!

Pros: I had an extremely nice time staying here for four nights on my solo trip to Santo Antao. The room and facilities were all great. The breakfast is delicious, local, and BIG. I recommend also eating dinner at the hostel, where they also make delicious and varied food.

Cons: There was nothing I didn't like

Pros: Fantastic guesthouse in Coculí. The staff were very kind and cooked up really delicious meals during my stay. The 6-bed dorm room was perhaps a little small for that number of people, but as I was the only person staying in it at the time, not a problem for me. All the facilities were clean and tidy!

Pros: Friendly authentic family-run guesthouse in a great location for exploring the dramatic ribeiras in north-east Santo Antao. The lesser-visited but highly spectacular Ribeiras Cha de Pedras and Figueiral are almost on the doorstep. A highlight was the very tasty and filling breakfasts and dinners prepared mostly with fresh ingredients from the family farm. Great views from the roof terrace at breakfast.

Pros: Beautiful location with a stunning view, really nice staff, amazing food, really big breakfast

Pros: Super lovely place, love the roof terrace. Great place to enjoy after a day’s long hike. Dinner and breakfast were tasty and plentiful! Totally recommend this place.

Pros: The breathtaking view was much better than we had imagined from the pictures. The dinner was also fantastic and the breakfast. We loved to stay there and the girl at the front desk was so lovely and friendly. Thank you for a great stay.

Pros: The ladies were very friendly. Delicious food and very well situated.

Cons: No Internet in the room downstairs, but the rest was perfect.

Great place to stay

Pros: The host was really friendly and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were both delicious and generous. They also have free wifi available, which was unexpected.
